Last year’s Color Walk fundraiser was so much fun and so successful, we decided to do it again!
If you attended last year, you’ll see some of the favorites return: free face painting, obstacle course, color celebrations, a DJ, and prize giveaways. We’ll also have powdered color packets for sale (we’re ordering more this year in hopes we don’t run out) and we’re going with a bigger candy straw size — 18″! (Don’t worry, that’s still less sugar than you’d find in a Clif bar or a cup of apple juice.)
Due to the portable classrooms in the back of the school, this year’s course will be shortened to .25 mile, but we’re still offering three different color stations for your color-tastic fun!
Your student should’ve already brought home the Color Walk packet that contains information about the fundraiser, a fundraising form, Subway combo meal order form, and registration/t-shirt order form. All of these forms are due back at the school on Wednesday, Sept. 5. If you need extra copies, you can print them from under the “Resources” tab along the top of the page.
And don’t forget, the only way to get entered into the prize giveaway drawings is to raise at least $50. For each additional $25 you raise, you get an extra entry in the drawing. We have some great prizes lined up this year, so you’re not going to want to miss your opportunity to go home a winner!

The PTO is very excited to be planning this fun-filled family event. We’re kickin’ it old school with an old-fashioned Spaghetti and Pie Feed and bringing back the fun-for-all-ages game of BINGO! For only $8 per person, you’ll get spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, bottled water and a slice of pie, along with five rounds of BINGO.
Can we pack more fun into the evening?!?! Oh, yeah, you know we can! How about a Pie Eating Contest? There is a youth (age 5-12) and an adult (13+) division. Pre-registration is $4 for the contest, and only $5 at the door.
Reservations are required. Order forms are due Friday, Jan. 19.
The Hillrise PTO is trying something new this year. Instead of doing a free Family Movie Night, we’re doing a live, family-fun event, “Magic of the Holidays,” featuring award-winning magician Joe Cole.
“With the holidays, people can get incredibly busy,” said Hillrise PTO President Kim LaGrange, “so we thought we’d offer Hillrise families the opportunity to take a breather and enjoy an experience together.”
Social Events Chair Mary McKenna came up with the idea of bringing Magician Joe Cole to Hillrise. “I really wanted something that would be interactive and appeal to all ages,” said Mary. “I’ve seen Joe perform before and thought he was incredibly entertaining and funny to both kids and parents.”
One important criteria to the event was that it remain free for Hillrise families. In order to do that, the Social Events Committee had to get creative. “In addition to looking for businesses to sponsor the show, we’re hoping families will be interested in a chance to win reserved, front-row seating, so we came up with the idea of the raffle,” said Mary. “For just $5, an entire family could win the chance to sit in the front row — prime seating for a magic show!”
No matter where you’re sitting, “Magic of the Holidays” is sure to be 45 minutes of pure entertainment the kids — and adults — won’t soon forget!

The Color Walk information packets went home this week and we are starting to feel the excitement! Inside the Color Walk envelope you’ll find an order form for registrations and Color Walk t-shirts, a donation form, and a pre-order form for Subway sandwich combo meals. Please take a moment to review the materials with your student and then help them start fundraising — family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers, they can all help your Hillrise Husky. And remember, there will be lots of incentives and giveaways! Deadline for order forms and donations is Tuesday, Sept. 5.
WHAT IS THE COLOR WALK? Hillrise students, friends, family join together to walk a course around the school grounds and through three color stations where volunteers spray colored powder on participants.
WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO? In addition to the walk, registrants will get to throw their own colored powder at two different Color Celebrations that will be announced throughout the event. A DJ will provide music, a fun obstacle course, prize giveaways and more! There will be popcorn, make-your-own candy sticks and color powder packets for sale, and you can pre-order sub combo meals for dinner!
HOW DOES THIS HELP HILLRISE? We hope this fundraiser will be so successful we won’t have to do many more the rest of the year. Through the funds raised by donations, walk registrations, t-shirt sales, and concessions, we hope to cover the $20,000 we distribute as classroom endowments to our Hillrise teachers.
WHAT INCENTIVES ARE BEING OFFERED FOR FUNDRAISING? Students who raise a minimum of $25 in donations will get a free student registration and a Color Walk Race Kit. The Race Kit includes sunglasses, packet of colored powder, spirit bracelet, stickers and tattoos.
Students who raise a minimum of $50, get the free student registration, free Race Kit, free Color Walk t-shirt, an additional color packet and an entry in the prize drawing*.
For each additional $25 the student raises, they get another color packet and entry in the prize drawing.
*We’re working hard to get donations from local businesses for our prize drawing. We’ve already secured items such as zoo passes, Scheel’s gift cards, restaurant gift certificates and more! We’re also adding some fun Hillrise experiences such as “Lunch with the Principal” and “Be A Stand-Up Comic for Morning Announcements.” Stay tuned for a complete list of prizes.
We hope you’ve been having a fantastic summer. As the end of July quickly approaches, and we flip to the calendar to August, we think we’re not alone when we say, “Where has the summer gone?!?!”
Once that calendar page shows August, you start seeing the school-related activities appearing. The first is probably our Back to School 101 event held on Tuesday, August, 8, from 10 am to 7 pm. It’s an open-house format, so you can come-and-go as you please.
Amongst all the forms you’ll soon receive in the mail, you’ll see some from your Hillrise PTO. We encourage you to take a few moments to read them, fill out the necessary information and stop by our table at the Back to School 101 event to drop them off. There will be board members and committee chairs working there, so please take a few minutes to say hello and introduce yourself. We’ll be there to chat and answer any questions you might have. (Especially about volunteering for a committee. We know the Volunteer Request form can be overwhelming, especially for new parents!)
In addition to collecting forms, we’ll have some of the assorted Hillrise apparel on display. If you’d like to wait to see the sizes and feel the fabrics before you fill-out your Hillrise Apparel order form, that’s fine. Bring the form with you and complete it there. There are lots of styles from which to choose — we’re sure you won’t be disappointed!
